JOYFUL BLESSINGS 14
For a child is born to us, a Son is given to us. The government will rest on His shoulders. And He will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9 gives us an Old Testament glimpse into the Promised One to come. And I don't want to miss the bright contrast written in these three sentences.
God is sending a baby! I don't know about you, but when I think of a brand new joy bundle, I picture the sweetest, fresh from heaven little one with teeny hands and feet. (And of course, with a side of diaper changes, late nights, and sporadic sleep!) When the world expected a warrior, Jesus came a helpless baby. He needed care, mothering, and protection in His earliest days. But here's the thing: He's also fully God, so He lived a sinless life. Fully human and fully God - only Jesus could grow up to become all of these things Isaiah prophesies. How much did the world struggle to wrap its mind around a baby carrying the government's weight on His shoulders? And yet, God often works through the least, the small, the helpless, the weak, and the young. With the humblest of beginnings - stable and all - He came to us. No parades, no fancy entrances, no parties, Jesus came not to be served, but to serve as a ransom for many (Mark 10:45). Long before He walked this earth, the foretelling of His life was given. And today, we know how the rest of the story goes! Jesus is our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. We have so much to make a joyful noise about in Him!

Dear God, there's no love greater than Yours. Thank You for sending Your Son; for making redemption through Him Your rescue plan from the beginning. All Your promises are fulfilled in Jesus. May I keep the awe Advent season brings close to my heart all year. Amen.
